@olaf_brandt didn’t realize that universities needed these ranking heuristics for hiring so much that they’d INVENT new ranks! Should we just accept that there’s a need to boil faculty down to a number and figure out the right number, or have you seen a better way?

@mikemorrison I didn't knew it either. Maybe the product existed and was sold and supported a bad reputation game which increased the reputation game and...🥳

It is important to highlight this, but I dont understand why the authors have produced this ranking at all.
Authors should never be evaluated by the "quality" of the journal they have published in. This is no good scientific practice, and one of the recommendations of DORA. Academic institutions should stop doing this.

"Recently our philosophy faculty … introduced a ranking of journals based on Elsevier’s Scopus database to evaluate the research output of its employees for awards and promotions."

As a fellow philosopher who proudly didn't make it in academia, all I can say is: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
