Ich leg heute noch einen nach... nun habe ich noch die Anleitung für die Google-Photos - Alternative Immich geschrieben. Diese baut auf meine vorherige Installations-Anleitung für Docker und Portainer auf. Hiermit lässt sich in wenigen Minuten schnell und einfach eine eigene Photo-Cloud im lokalen Netzwerk installieren. Die passende App gibt es auch dafür.

I'm pretty sure #google makes their apps less sophisticated at least partly to hide the scale of the data they're collecting.

I say this because in #immich, which is a #selfhosted photo app, I have exact geolocation of where I took all my pictures. In Google Photos there's a vague "in this country" but no option to overlay photos on Google Maps. Too dystopian?

Ich habe mal testweise Immich installiert. Das sieht echt gut aus und erinnert wirklich sehr an Google Photos. Immich ist zwar noch in einer Beta-Phase, aber dafür läuft es schon sehr gut.

Von den fast 18.000 Fotos und Videos sind nun schon gut 10.000 hochgeladen und die CPU hat gut zu tun, denn das muss alles erst verarbeitet werden.

Wer es ausprobieren möchte, findet auf der Immich-Webseite den Link zum testen. Die passende App für's Handy gibt es auch dazu.

Welch eine Verbesserung in der semantischen Suche bei nur minimal mehr Ressourcen-Verbrauch. Läuft prima auf der #Synology.

I'm looking for a #photo app (something like iCloud photos) but #self-hosted. Must be able to be hosted locally and must have an iOS app so that there is automatic sync.
And not #NextCloud :)
I am currently considering #immich, #photoprism and #photonix.

Any poppositions? And why?

I installed Docker on a laptop so I could use #Immich, because #Nextcloud Photos is slow and keeps getting my IP addy softbanned from my new non-US shared hosting.

I was nervous.

But it was very easy.

It pulled Immich!!

I added my first folders of images... It was FAST! AND IT'S PRETTY!!

Hurrah!

Please note, this stuff didn't exist when I was a youngling and I am not a coder.

@pjf thankyou so much for mentioning it a little while back. I didn't realise Docker was so easy.

Next to get everything off of #GooglePhotos, get my phone sending everything to Immich, and learn & make backups of all on a Raspberry Pi!

Ich versuche gerade, alles mögliche zu tun, um von amerikanischen Großkonzernen wegzukommen.

Die Medienverwaltung ist aktuell das größte Problem.
Lokale Lösungen mit #Immich, etc. Habe ich inzwischen verworfen.

Meine Wahl ist auf @ente gefallen.
Die 4 GB file size limit sind unschön, aber noch zu verkraften.
Aber dass ich die Library nicht auf ein Netzwerkkaufwerk synchronisieren kann, tut schon mehr weh.
Richtig schmerzhaft ist die Performance, wenn ich Tage auf den Sync warten muss.

I'm an utterly impressed with #immich so far. Sure, importing 35k+ images and 1k videos took most of evening, but I'm really pleased with how well it's performing, and I can't wait to get off iCloud

Google Photos is one of the things that kept me tied to Google until now, but I now have a reliable self-hosted system at home and it was time to try.

On a 10 year old PC with 4 GB of RAM (where I run a lot of other stuff) immich ingested my Gphotos library, chew on it for a night (generating thumbnails, finding faces, etc..) and is now snappy and as fast as google photos.

It's fantastic. I installed the mobile app and I'm running it in parallel to google photos for now.
