On a whim I decided to go watch the Australian Rally Championship season kick off here in Canberra.

A friend and I headed out into the bush to Canberra's south (about 20 min out of town) and joined a throng of 100+ spectators.

Watching a rally is a bit strange - you stand around waiting, then you can hear the cars coming a fair way off and everyone surges to their feet. The cars arrive in a cloud of petrol, dust and noise and a few seconds later they're gone and the whole thing resets.

The spectator spot is usually chosen for its drama and this was no exception - cars climbed a slope into a dusty left hander.

The ABC got some great footage of the following day's special stage, which is much more spectator-friendly but I've attached my footage for your ten seconds of enjoyment.

Just wrapped my first ever day at the #aimexpo . Trade shows are usually 25% agenda, 75% serendipity, but I don’t think I’ve ever been so engaged mostly eavesdropping and observing a show for a day.

It’s also wild to be somewhere both sides of my professional brain merge.

The powersports/motorsports industries are a puzzle I am endlessly fascinated trying to figure it out.

one of the best decisions of my life is taking an interest in #motorsports

2014 #F1 (start of Turbo-Hybrid era)
2018-19 #FormulaE (Gen 2 era)
Watching the entirety of the 2023 Le Mans and fully following the 2024 season because of new entrants and close competition in both classes.

We are truly living in the Golden Era of motorsport and I pinch myself at how lucky I am to witness this.

Although I tune in live for F1, watching WEC sessions is what brings me joy.

Can't recommend it enough :)
