In 1979, the government of #Singapore launched the National Courtesy Campaign. This long-running campaign aimed to promote the idea of being courteous and polite in Singapore, as people are increasingly living in ever higher-density “new towns” consisting of high-rise flats.
For decades, the face of the Courtesy Campaign (later called the Kindness Campaign) was Singa the Courtesy Lion, a smiley-faced cartoon lion adopted in 1982. The Courtesy Song was played on TV many, many times and featured prominently in my childhood memory.
After 30 years of service, Singa the Courtesy Lion finally called it quits, because he’s “just too tired to continue facing an increasingly angry and disagreeable society.” https://web.archive.org/web/20130607184028/http://kindness.sg/blog/2013/05/15/singa-resigns/
Anyway, here’s a collage of Courtesy/Kindness campaign materials that someone put together, accompanied by the Courtesy Song. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsqL5W-eRLo
