A Canadian folktale associated with May Day is the Mermaid of the Magdalenes. I liked the idea that this fairytale is about something as prosaic as finding tinned sardines - and is also about ecology and stars a black lobster as we finish #InverteFest.

The rugged east coast Magdalene Islands are all but barren of grass & trees, but the waters are rich in fish and people called it the “Kingdom of Fishes”. 🧵1/n

My illustration of the Mermaid of the Magdalenes is a blue and black linocut print on 11” x 14” paper embellished with gouache. The upper left corner shows the red cliffs, beach, shipwreck and crate and tins on the shore. The upper right shows the meeting of all the fishes with many different species including the black lobster, merman, sardine, clam, starfish and more. In the centre are waves, clouds as ocean transitions to sky and a large tin of sardines. Across the bottom is the mermaid combing her hair looking longingly at the shore.

My art journey very much started with Mumm Alive FanArt and Rath is still my Muse and his archetype inspired many OC charas.
I like digital art, but i immensely enjoy traditional materials as well. I am just not as good with them.

Title: Involuntary Puppeteer

After coming back from the clinic i really wanted to continue with a kind of art therapy at home and this was one of the first illustrations to be made by doing that.

I had thoughts about how managing a family and the mental load that is required when raising two kids, having a house, working a strainious day job... how i felt that this pulled too heavy on the hand that tried to stay on top with organization.

After some time, the feeling eased up a bit, but i still struggle with this.
Perhaps some of you know that feeling.
