Can someone tell me how January and February have been both the slowest AND fastest months in history at the same time? Is this a physics / relativity question? Physicists? Chronometrists? Anyone?

A sunny blue sky day (only a few tiny bits of white cloud near the horizon), looking from the moving car across a snowy ditch marked with snowmobile tracks, then a wire and post fence and a wide open snow covered field. Wind and sun have covered the surface with low ridges and ripples between smooth patches, with an uneven shine where the sun has previously partly melted bits. Midway across is a farmyard marked by a stand of large dark spruce trees and scattered buildings and vehicles, main buildings mostly out of sight to the left

A sunny blue sky day looking from the moving car across a wide open smooth snow covered field, nearly glowing where the sun hits areas previously partly melted. Midway across the image, the field is broken by a fence line with a scattered line of bare silhouetted poplar trees outlined against snow and sky. Beyond is another semi-shiny snowy field with a bit more texture, bordered in the distance by dark woodland.

Looking across a snowy pasture at sunset. The foreground is blue-grey snow in dusky cloudy shadow, but the snow is not deep and you can see bits of dry grass poking through, and a long line of dark lumps where soil was disturbed or possibly where manure from corrals was dumped- or simply where the cattle have been feeding as this extends from their hay bale holder. At the left of this we can see the back half one dark and silhouetted cow standing. Behind the snowy area is band of low willows (low compared to trees, but a bit taller than a person)- the growth is a dense dark mass of branches and trunks no more than an inch or two diameter, with occasional small poplars sticking up a bit higher. Beyond that we have a glimpse of another snowy field, with some more trees farther back over the crest of a hill, then distant foothills. The foothills are dark blue grey sunset tinted and softened by the blowing snow which in turn blends them into the orange and dark mountains behind which are half hidden, enveloped in swirling drifting snow? low cloud? Behind this veil of thin moving vapour or snow is a golden orange area with some fluffy clouds moving over the mountains then above that the sky is medium to dark blue-grey cloud, with the orangey twists from below softening the edges.

Looking through a wetland area with dense willow growth from a couple to a handful of metres tall.The stems are mostly thin and reddish to dark in the cloudy late afternoon light. To each side are much taller mixed wodds with bare poplars and dark spruce. Through the centre above the willows we can see the sky with swirling clouds from white to mid grey and a patch of blue above the horizon.

In 2023, I set out on a fun project to capture a main color each month. I had in my mind it would help focus specific compositions and push me creatively, and it overall managed to do just that. This was creatively named The Color of The Month Project.

I started off with White January!

January is winter in Colorado, and winter means snow so.... what better color to start off on than white?

I decided a focus on geometric patterns and interesting shapes, which generally led to more small scenes, rather than sprawling landscapes shots - though I did find one good spot that lend itself to what we normally consider as "landscape photography." I also had lots of fun focusing on sunlight and shadows, that I think lead to some interesting photos that are still predominately white.
