The absolute worst part of social media for me is the weird parasociality about it.
Like, I'll follow someone because they say something interesting, or talk about stuff I'm interested in, then I follow their interesting follows, then it eventually stops being just about their interesting things and starts being about their general lives then suddently someone's friend says something wild that *at least* borders on antisemitic or some shit and everybody goes wild and I'm like twenty posts deep reading reskeets and quote tweets and screenshots of toots that are all removed from context and I'm like
I don't even *know* these people. I don't even toot at them or whatever! I just passively consume their public persona and now I feel terrible because Im emotionally invested in some random person who I don't talk to or knows did a terrible post?
just fuk sake.
What's worse is this feels like the *intended use case* of social media, creating these bizzare emotionally parasitic connections with each other, where ultimately everyone loses.
Except m y friends on here. I think you're all lovely and should have a wonderful day.
High fives and hugs all round! :3
