Looking southwards along Bar Beach to Merewether where the ocean meets the sand. Lots of white breakers further out but nothing too big. Blue sky with a few thick stripes of white puffy clouds. And sunshine. Was still a cool breeze blowing.

The waters off Bar Beach. Closest to shore, they're clear, showing the mix of sand and large mossy green rocks on the floor here. Several metres out, the colours shift to pale green, then darken abruptly to a more intense blue-green. Further out, there is white line of water where the waves are breaking, before the ocean becomes a more solid blue to the horizon.

Caustics. #beach #ocean #BarBeach

$Web of caustics (refracted light patterns) covering the sandy rock floor of part of a larger shallow ocean pool. There are a few small patches of brown seaweed submerged in the water. At the top left a medium sized rock is poking above the surface with some of the light reflecting back up on its side.$

Intensely concentrated pattern on caustics in the sandy shallows. Almost like a honeycomb.

Close up of caustics as they bubble, curve and fragment along the sandy floor of the pool. There is a large limpet and some shell pieces in the sand though the view is distorted here.

Rock fisherman with seagull. #beach #ocean #BarBeach #NewcastleNSW

A guy fishing off the far edge of the rock platform closest to where the waves break. A seagull in flight above him. Low tide and not much of a swell so fairly safe out there today. Brown grey rocks have some water pooling but are really dry in parts. Sea is a mid blue out to the horizon. Sky blue with a thin light haze of white cloud.

$More of the large shallow rock pool north of the Granny Pool. A web of refracted light patterns the sandy floor of the pool. The water currents have carved contour lines into the sand. Large slabs, rounds and points of rock dot the sandy floor. In the distance, a few small figures walking along the far edge of the rocks and a big ship just visible on the ocean horizon.$
