#OrganicMaps will probably not survive this conflict. It has been boiling underneath for a long time and I doubt they'll publish numbers as requested. This will then result in a fork.
All this is slowing down a good maps project and important alternative to the surveillance capitalism offerings. But there is no way around this and I am glad this overdue discussion is now had.
#OpenSource is very difficult.
OrganicMaps wird diesen Konflikt womöglich nicht überstehen. Es brodelt schon seit langer Zeit unter der Oberfläche, und ich bezweifle, dass die geforderten Zahlen veröffentlicht werden. Das wird dann zu einem Fork führen.
All das bremst ein gutes Kartenprojekt und eine wichtige Alternative zu den Angeboten des Überwachungskapitalismus. Aber es führt kein Weg an dieser Debatte vorbei, und ich bin froh, dass diese längst überfällige Diskussion nun geführt wird.
OpenSource ist sehr kompliziert.

Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich, wie schnell #OpenStreetMap auf aktuelle Änderungen reagiert. Gestern musste eine Brücke in #Magdeburg ohne Vorlaufzeit dauerhaft wegen Einsturzgefahr gesperrt werden. Praktisch gleichzeitig mit der Bekanntgabe wurde die Sperrung in die Daten eingepflegt.
Question for my #osm #openstreetmap fellow nerds: Is the surface of this pavement sett or rock? This is a residential area so the path is man-made, not natural.

Today, I finalised an #osm mapping project.
I never thought that I would be able to contribute anything besides minor updates here and there to #openstreetmap. But then there was this park area which was reconstructed close to my home. And as nobody had picked this up yet, I added this park to my morning run and was able to update the map bit by bit:
Paths, benches, waste bins, fitness stations, courts, individual objects on the playground, … we should have a good basis now.
Interesting discussions go along with such an exercise. I learned a lot.

Worked on adding some details to the Mt Ksico NY town central. Added missing sidewalks, parking lots, and building details. Unfortunately I forgot to get a before photo.

Gibts bei #OSM eigentlich die Möglichkeit, Örtlichkeiten als Nazi-Treff zu markieren? Denke da z.B. ans Sturgis in Berlin-Lichtenberg, ein Nazi-Treff, der auf der Karte als ganz normale Bar angezeigt wird.

@karussell They don't explicitly say that they're incorporating Open Street Map data---instead saying that you can bring "your" data alongside Google's---but, as evidenced by your screenshot, and by Google's intro video here at the 41 second mark:

It certainly seems like Google views Open Street Map data as fair game for inclusion within their "Geospatial Reasoning" product. Their promotional material shows a map rendering that bears a very strong resemblance to Open Street Map's default "Carto" raster tile rendering style, encouraging their potential customers to believe the same.
That is as clear a violation of the ODbL as can be, which was written in large part specifically to exclude Google from using OSM data in its own customer-facing products. Laundering license violations through AI doesn't make them not violations.

@macandi Konkurrenz zu Google #Maps ist gut und wünschenswert, aber es ist in diesen Zeiten dringend notwendig, dass wir eine geeignete europäische Alternative zu den US-Diensten erschaffen.
#OSM / #OpenStreetMap ist toll, aber hat einen anderen Fokus, außerdem fehlen Funktionen zum Navigieren. #Here Maps vielleicht?
Ich helfe jedenfalls mit, die Karte von OSM zu verbessern und Fehler zu beheben und es wäre toll, wenn mehr Menschen das in ihrer Gegend tun würden.
Europas #Souveränität muss wachsen! Während wir uns hier bei den größten Faktoren auf die Regierungen verlassen müssen, gibt es besonders im digitalen Bereich zahlreiche Stellen, an der wir als einzelne Bürger viel beitragen können.
z.B. die Nutzung europäischer Dienste und Anbieter (#Suchmaschine, #Browser, #OSM, …) oder der Wechsel zu #OpenSource und offenen Protokollen/Standards (#ODT stadt DOCX, #Fediverse, …).
Je mehr von uns das nutzen, desto interessanter ein Wechsel auch für Behörden.
