I took this picture of a manatee ten years ago (geeeeez) at Crystal River. It was for a film about Wildlife and Humans interactions. Three Sisters Spring was still open and the US Wildlife and Fish Service had issued me a permit authorizing me to go down to the bottom in apnea. I guess it's forbidden now and I think Three Sisters is close now to protect the manatees ( who are in danger and adorable by the way).

Loss of seagrass, water pollution, and boat strikes are taking a deadly toll on these gentle giants. The USFWS lowered their protection level from endangered to threatened in 2017. They need to reclassify manatees as endangered once again, to save them from extinction. Please send the USFWS an email today supporting reclassifying Florida manatees as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

- Too many animals that are in serious danger need more robust #protections under the Endangered Species Act, including #GrayWolves, #manatees, western #MonarchButterflies and American #bumblebees.

Extinction is forever. Once we lose a species, there's no bringing it back. That's why it's so important that we protect these animals.

I urge you to re-list the West Indian manatee subpopulations, including the #Florida manatee, as endangered. One-fifth of Florida manatees died in the last two years alone. Their #population can’t sustain such heavy losses.
